SHEN, 1996 for piano

 (…) Another typical aspect of the instrumental works of Gianmartino Durighello is improvisation, true or simulated. Shen is really an improvisation, that was secretly taped by a student who took part in the lectures on contemporary choral music in Gragnano (Napoli) the 30th of August 1996. The title recalls the Zen conception of poetry, introducing the piece as a mystical exercise which longs to «enter into the spirit of life, shen» (Yen Yu, XIII century). Shen was performed for the first time by Massimo Somenzi – December 1998. (Ivan Tchmiel)

(…) Un secondo aspetto caratterizzante la produzione strumentale di Gian­martino Durighello è l’improvvisazione e/o la finta improvvisazione. Shen è proprio una improvvisazione, registrata di nascosto da un partecipan­te al corso sulla musica corale contemporanea di Gragnano (Napoli) il 30 agosto 1996.Il titolo, esplicito richiamo alla concezione Zen della poesia, svela il brano come esercizio mistico che tende ad «entrare nello spirito della vita, shen» (Yen Yu, XIII sec.).
